  • Opportunity to lead the largest state government school in Victoria
  • Drive outcomes for a diverse and unique student cohort
  • Lead a community of practice to evolve and strengthen virtual and digital learning

The Department of Education and Training seeks an Executive Principal to lead Virtual School Victoria (VSV) through the next stage of its development, working towards the vision of seeing the School as a system leader in online, virtual and blended learning: sharing knowledge and expertise, and leading system conversations around digital learning.
The Executive Principal will lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the strategic deployment of resources provided by the Department and the school community.  A key component of this role is to increase the knowledge base of teachers within their school about student learning and quality teacher practice.  As executive officer of the school council, the Executive Principal will also ensure that adequate and appropriate advice is provided to the council on educational and other matters; that the decisions of the council are implemented; and that adequate support and resources are provided for the conduct of council meetings.
The successful candidate will demonstrate visionary leadership, with the capacity to innovate in a dynamic virtual learning environment, including leadership in the areas of curriculum, pedagogy, engagement and wellbeing in a school with a diverse cohort of F-12 students.  With the ability to create a positive culture of challenge, support and collaboration, the appointee will be capable of producing and implementing clear, evidence-based improvement plans and policies and leading innovation and change.  The ability to create a professional learning community that is focused on the continuous improvement of teaching and learning, supporting all staff to achieve high standards and commitment to their own learning and wellbeing will be key to success.
Candidates must be appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
The School
Virtual School Victoria is the state’s leading virtual school, offering 280 semester-based courses online, including VCE subjects.  With an annual enrolment in excess of 4,000 students from Prep to Year 12, VSV is the largest state government school in Victoria.  Around 1,500 students are enrolled full time, while around 2,500 students, most in years 11 and 12, complete subjects with VSV while based in other schools.
In addition to offering a host of teaching and learning courses approved by the VCAA, its specialist teachers provide students with individualised learning and support.  VSV teachers are dedicated to building the confidence and resilience of each and every student.  Like any school, its teachers regularly support and interact with students, but they do so in a different way to most schools: they do so virtually.
VSV’s expertise in virtual learning has made it a school of choice for many students and the Victorian families who enrol their children with the school annually.
