The Position
The General Manager Community supports the Council Plan through high quality service delivery and development of strategies that are responsive to the changing needs of Darebin’s vibrant communities. With six direct reports, the role has accountability for leading a contemporary, community centred approach to community development.

With a proven ability to engage and build sustainable relationships with a diverse range of groups and individuals, you will possess a personal style that models integrity, equity, fairness and transparency. Your capability to lead and support others in building relationships will be a key strength.

You will drive change in business practice to reform the performance of functions, projects and programs across aged care support, families, children, youth, libraries, community hubs, arts and creative industries, leisure and sports. Through effective design and delivery, you will foster active participation in community life and strong community engagement that supports Council’s social advocacy agenda.

The successful candidate will have multi-disciplinary leadership experience, with strong financial, people and collaboration capabilities. Your deep understanding of contemporary social policy issues along with proven leadership in reforming, strengthening and collaborating across complex community focused organisations is vital.
