Australian Red Cross is synonymous with emergency preparedness, response and recovery. In 2021-22 the organisation supported more than 300,000 people before, during and after disasters. With extreme weather events in Australia occurring with increasing frequency, Red Cross’s role in emergencies will undoubtedly become increasingly important. The organisation seeks to appoint a new Head of Emergencies to drive even more impact in this space.
The position of Head of Emergencies, leads the strategy, policy, influence and advocacy as well as horizon scanning for Emergency Services nationwide. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Head will work closely with state based teams to augment emergency services ensuring programs are compliant and viable, and that they deliver optimal impact. A key element of the role is to develop viable partnerships with a range of orgnisations, including enterprise, public and private, local and state entities. Collaborating effectively across the organisation will be critical to the success of the role.
The successful candidate will have a background and expertise in emergency management. Equipped with advanced relationship management and influencing skills, they will have the ability to negotiate and liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders including senior government officials. Recognised as being a trusted and highly ethical operator, they will have a record in developing and monitoring risk, and will be the kind of leader who is self-directed, shows foresight and drives initiatives inclusively and collaboratively.
