The Position

Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI) seeks an outstanding candidate to lead the development and implementation of key strategies, policies, and initiatives that strengthen the presence of First Nations perspectives throughout the Institute, as Head of Indigenous Engagement.

Reporting to the Chief People, Brand and Strategy Officer, and leading a team of 6, the Head of Indigenous Engagement will manage the operations of the Indigenous Education Centre, providing support to students and preparation for employment.  The Head of Indigenous Engagement will provide high level advice, guidance and thought leadership to the CEO and executive team on matters and trends in relation to reconciliation initiatives and relationships with Aboriginal communities.  The position will take a lead role in increasing the participation of First Nations students, enhancing community and industry relationships, liaising with local First Nations community groups, government, and private sector groups to identify training and community needs, grow BKI enrolments and create employment opportunities for the Indigenous community.

With an understanding of current trends in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, research and/or employment and experience working in and with Indigenous communities, the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record in the management of high performing teams, programs and services.  Bringing outstanding stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to respectfully influence and negotiate, you will be experienced in building sustainable partnerships and communicating a compelling strategic vision, in addition to diversifying revenue opportunities to facilitate growth and support for Indigenous participants.
