The Position

Reporting to the Principal, the Head of Middle School for Tintern Grammar is responsible for overseeing the pastoral welfare of students, managing student discipline issues and communicating with parents of students and teachers of the Middle School. A member of the Tintern Grammar Executive, the Head of Middle School leads the Year Level Co-ordinators and pastoral mentors ensuring all students are challenged, supported, cared for, and known. They will also ensure that practices and processes are in place for the development of students, both academically and socially.

The Head of Middle School is a newly created position and carries responsibility for outcomes of all students in the Middle School, with a focus on both student progress and their opportunities to engage in broader life experiences. Other key areas of focus for the position will be oversight of key school strategic intentions, ongoing review and development of the pastoral care program, and leading staff to develop an engaging program for Middle School students.

The successful candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to display emotional intelligence and openness. With prior experience in innovative and educational programs in a middle school setting with both boys and girls, the appointee will have a strong understanding of the developmental and educational needs of adolescents and young adults. A supportive and egalitarian management and leadership style will nurture, challenge and guide both students and staff. The position will suit a highly organised individual who demonstrates an adaptive communication style to warmly and effectively engage with staff, students and families. Presenting with a contemporary mindset, the appointee will display high energy levels, strong influencing skills and commitment to high standards of academic focus and pastoral care.

The Organisation

Tintern Grammar was founded over 145 years ago, moving to its current location in Ringwood East in 1953. The school is set on 40 acres of beautiful grounds with magnificent sporting fields, science facilities, swimming pool, gymnasium, STEAM and Robotics Centre and a working farm, Tinternwood.
