James Cook University (JCU) seeks an outstanding individual to provide leadership as Dean, Healthcare Sciences.  The College of Healthcare Sciences is home to JCU’s nursing and allied health teaching and research programs.  The multi-campus College is headquartered at the Bebegu Yuma (Townsville) campus, also delivering at the Nguma Bada (Cairns) and Singapore campuses, with aspirations for delivery elsewhere.

The Dean is responsible for the strategic growth, sustainability and success of the College of Healthcare Sciences, through innovative strategic leadership, astute resource management, high quality learning, teaching and research delivery, and nurturing a culture which enhances staff, student and stakeholder experience and wellbeing.

Working with colleagues within the College and across the Academy to develop and implement innovative ways of expanding the College’s portfolio and attracting new students, the Dean will develop and sustain a research culture, growing the quantity, quality and impact of research.  The Dean will also instigate and maintain partnerships with a range of external organisations concerned with teaching, research and workforce development in the wider health sector.

With a high-quality academic track record and scholarly reputation, the ideal candidate will be a collegiate leader with outstanding communication and influencing skills, able to foster relationships with diverse stakeholder groups, including with government, the healthcare sector and the community.  The Dean will be experienced in leading cultural change and development, with a focus on curriculum innovation and leading outstanding research to meet the changing needs of the nursing and allied health disciplines, professions and industries.  An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to apply strategy to implement sustainable change and create opportunity will be key to success.  The successful candidate will be personally aligned with the University’s core values of excellence; authenticity; integrity; and respect.
