The Position
As a key functional leader in the organisation, you will mentor and inspire the finance and corporate performance team to deliver quality process, systems and business outcomes aligned with Council’s Transformation including long term financial sustainability.
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, you will lead 5 direct reports and a team of 30+ covering financial accounting, planning and analysis, corporate performance, payroll, rates management, procurement and accounts payable. The role liaises with Directors, the Chief Executive Officer, Whitehorse Leadership team and Councillors, providing insightful and trusted advice. The role is also the ‘Principal Accounting Officer’ in accordance with the Local Government Act.
The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in accounting, financial analysis, budget preparation and management, application of best practice accounting principles and practice. Additionally, working knowledge of information systems and an ability to lead through organisational change is expected. Highly developed people management skills with the ability to build a customer service culture are required. ERP implementation experience welcomed.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, CPA or CAA are expected. Demonstrated experience at management level in a mid-large size organisation is expected and public sector experience, whilst not mandatory, is beneficial.
