Overview
A key leader within the Senior Management Team, this position oversees the effective governance structures that support the management of Council business with appropriate oversight, accountability and risk management. This position also oversees the critical development and delivery of Council’s key long-term planning inputs including the Community Vision and Council Plan to reflect community expectations and aspirations.
The Position
Reporting to the Director Business Transformation, this role is an integral member of Moreland City Council’s Senior Management Team. This role provides governance support services to Councillors and Council meetings, coordinating key Council planning documents, including the Community Vision and Council Plan, to promote good governance, community engagement and robust decision making. The role will also collaborate across the organisation to ensure effective governance and corporate strategic planning through business partnering to deliver high quality services. Success requires the drive for continuous improvement and a wholistic view of the organisation and the communities it serves.
The role will drive a contemporary and effective approach to risk and audit functions. It will enhance organisational performance through governance structures shaped by key Moreland City Council planning documents and legislation, regulation, standards, and community expectations. This is an exciting opportunity to foster a positive governance and strategic planning culture across the organisation and develop a high performing team to embed desired practices.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have proven relevant leadership expertise within Local Government, or in the public or not-for-profit sector. A strong understanding of good governance, impactful corporate strategic planning, risk management and internal audit within the local government setting is required. You will bring a reputation of the highest integrity and ethics.
The Organisation
Moreland is a progressive council with 180,000 residents: one community, proudly diverse. The city is vibrant and energetic, known for its active community, array of fabulous festivals, cool pools, eclectic shops and community of artists and creative industries. As a Council, Moreland is supporting the community in difficult times, and its long-term vision has ambitious goals for environmental sustainability, community wellbeing, and creating great places.
Moreland Council strives to be a contemporary, innovative and collaborative organisation with a deep commitment to, and engagement with, the Moreland community. With the Civic Centre located in Coburg, just 8 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD, there are excellent public transport options and great food and cafés right at the doorstep. Moreland City Council is a great place to live, work and play.
COVID-19 has temporarily changed the way people engage with local spaces and services, but one of the exciting features of this role is the opportunity to support an organisation deeply committed to community relief and recovery.
Moreland City Council is proudly diverse and an equal opportunity employer. Applications are encouraged from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, people with disability, and people from every culture, gender and sexuality identity, age and ethnic background.
