  • Deliver on a contemporary people and culture mandate
  • Impactful senior management role
  • Be part of an ambitious and progressive community agenda

A key leadership role within the Senior Management Team, this role is critical to the delivery of Council’s and the community’s vision for a diverse, inclusive and safe workforce, which contributes to the success of providing services to the Moreland community. The position is responsible for overseeing the human resources functions and promoting workplace health and safety.
The Position
Reporting to the Director Business Transformation, this role is an integral member of Moreland City Council’s Senior Management Team and will contribute to fostering a positive and progressive culture and developing and supporting a high performing People & Safety team. This role oversees continuous improvement in frameworks, strategies, policies, systems, processes and training & development that underpin a safe workplace, and well-trained, motivated, engaged, and healthy staff.
The role also leads on coordinating workforce planning and strategic thinking. Success requires collaborating with other parts of the organisation to ensure effective operations and business partnering to deliver quality services to both internal and external customers. This is an exciting opportunity for a well-rounded professional to thrive in a role that offers breadth and depth, providing specialist advice and influential support to Council, CEO, Directors, Branch and Service Units.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have proven leadership experience in human resources and workplace health and safety in a complex organisation. As well as a track record in productive and harmonious employee relations with staff and unions, including leading and facilitating negotiations.
The Organisation
Moreland is a progressive council with 180,000 residents: one community, proudly diverse. The city is vibrant and energetic, known for its active community, array of fabulous festivals, cool pools, eclectic shops and community of artists and creative industries. As a Council, Moreland is supporting the community in difficult times, and its long-term vision has ambitious goals for environmental sustainability, community wellbeing, and creating great places.
Moreland Council strives to be a contemporary, innovative and collaborative organisation with a deep commitment to, and engagement with, the Moreland community. With the Civic Centre located in Coburg, just 8 kilometres north of Melbourne’s CBD, there are excellent public transport options and great food and cafés right at the doorstep. Moreland City Council is a great place to live, work and play.
COVID-19 has temporarily changed the way people engage with local spaces and services, but one of the exciting features of this role is the opportunity to support an organisation deeply committed to community relief and recovery.
Moreland City Council is proudly diverse and an equal opportunity employer. Applications are encouraged from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, people with disability, and people from every culture, gender and sexuality identity, age and ethnic background. Moreland City Council is committed to being a Child Safe organisation and has zero tolerance for child abuse.
Unfortunately, due to pandemic restrictions we cannot consider anyone residing outside of Australia.
