The Position
This key leadership role will deliver innovative and strategic outcomes to achieve Council’s key goal of Zero Carbon Moreland, working towards zero waste to landfill, influencing positive development, creating a water sensitive city and contributing to practical policies and projects across the organisation. The role will coordinate Council’s Climate Risk Strategy, Climate Emergency Action Plan and Zero Carbon 2040 Framework.
Reporting to the Director of Place and Environment, the Manager is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, safety-first workplace culture and a high performing team that delivers service excellence and works collaboratively across Council. The role has two direct reports (covering Sustainable Built Environment and Sustainable Communities).
The Manager will bring a focus of sustainability into all aspects of Council’s operations, asset management and drive sustainable outcomes across the community. This role will partner, engage and advocate to drive change at the local level and influence reforms at the state and national levels, and proactively liaise with the Mayor and Councillors.
Success requires relevant environmental management experience, strategic and operational delivery capability, and proven positive people leadership. Superior communication, collaboration and influencing skills are necessary along with a track record of innovative thinking and policy foresight.
Tertiary qualifications in environmental, climate change or other relevant disciplines are ideal.
