The Position

Oxfam Australia (OA) is seeking two passionate, community-connected and skilled people to help lead into the future by taking up roles on OA’s Board. The Board of OA provides the governance oversight, strategic foresight, deep community engagement and knowledge to facilitate the innovation and transformation that will ensure a powerful, relevant, authoritative, respected and legitimate organisation  targeting systems change needed to eliminate poverty. Working with allies and in ways that decolonize and reimagine global networks and movements, Oxfam Australia is working to redefine its approach to solidarity across regions and countries ensuring justice is central to its way of working and its goals.

The Board of Directors bears ultimate responsibility for OA achieving its purpose. It is responsible for the organisation’s strategic direction, effective governance and leadership on behalf of its stakeholders. The board is supporting a new strategy for OA to ensure greatest possible impact in a context of growing global uncertainty.

The Board generally meets six times annually with a mix of in person and virtual meetings with additional meetings as required. Board members would also participate in one of the two main standing subcommittees (Governance and Finance, Risk, and Audit). These committees meet five times annually. The overall time commitment would fluctuate but is estimated to be approximately 60 hours per year.

Candidates from across Australia are welcome to apply. This is a high profile and voluntary, non-remunerated role.Travel to Melbourne for in person meetings is covered as required.
