The Position

Strathcona Girls Grammar is seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly credible leader to the position of Principal, following the announced resignation of the incumbent, Ms Marise McConaghy after nearly ten years of outstanding leadership and commitment to staff, students and the wider Strathcona community.

Reporting to the School Board, the Principal will lead an energetic, dynamic and dedicated team of staff to continue to drive the School’s commitment for academic excellence along with the development of well-rounded individuals who demonstrate a shared set of values; respect, integrity, compassion, courage and empowerment.  Additionally the Principal will work with the Board and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement a strategic plan that will take the school into their next century.

With the school celebrating its centenary in 2024 the Principal will need to be a highly visible and connected community figure who is able to inspire confidence in the school and take all members of the school community on the journey from great to exceptional. The Principal will drive excellence in educational outcomes for the students while building an inclusive, diverse and caring community. Promoting outstanding academic results, strong enrolment levels, financial stability, effective operational management, and quality infrastructure will be key aspects of this position.

With an outstanding record of educational leadership, the ideal candidate will have a history of and passion for excellence and innovation in teaching, including a strong commitment to continuous improvement across all areas of the School. Presenting with a strategic and progressive mindset and displaying high emotional intelligence and outstanding interpersonal skills, the appointee will have a supportive and collaborative style that nurtures, challenges and inspires students and the broader school community. A background in fostering a positive culture along with an open, and collegial leadership style that promotes the continued professional development of staff will be important. Aligned to the School’s faith and values, the new Principal will possess a strong desire to be part of a thriving community.

The Organisation

Strathcona is a leading girls’ school based in Canterbury catering for girls and boys in the ELC and girls only from Prep to Year 12. The School accommodates approximately 800 students with long standing and strong ties to the wider community. The School comprises three campuses with the Junior and Senior Schools located in Canterbury and the Year 9 cohort housed at the historic Tay Creggan campus in Hawthorn. The ELC is located on the Senior Campus.
