The Position
The Principal Advisor to the Chief Judge is a career-shaping opportunity to work alongside Chief Judge Peter Kidd in a high-level advisory capacity. The County Court is Victoria’s busiest trial court and the position is critical to the management of the Court and supports the Chief Judge’s role as a member of Courts Council and as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
As a representative of the Chief Judge and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer of the Court, the appointee will display leadership qualities and liaise with the Judiciary and a broad range of stakeholders throughout the justice system. The Principal Advisor will support the Chief Judge in his role by researching, developing and implementing strategies, by managing complex and sensitive projects, and by managing the administrative workflow of Chambers.
As a member of the Court’s Executive Leadership Team the appointee will have a strategic view of the Victoria’s courts system and have a strong track record in advisory, policy and strategic management capacities. The appointee will have exceptional communication and conceptual skills and must display integrity, decisiveness, and creative problem-solving ability. An undergraduate qualification in an aligned discipline is mandatory and a post graduate qualification in the same is highly desirable. A tertiary qualification in Law will be highly regarded.
The Organisation
The County Court of Victoria has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria.
The Court hears over 11,000 criminal, common law and commercial cases each year.
With a total of 65 Judges of the Court and over 200 staff, including judicial support staff, the County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings at 12 circuit courts situated in major centres throughout regional Victoria.
