The Position
Scotch College Adelaide, one of Australia’s leading independent schools, seeks to appoint an inspirational leader and role model to the position of Principal and Chief Executive Officer to establish the foundations for its second century. The appointee will succeed Dr John Newton, who will leave at the end of 2022 following a highly successful 8-year tenure.
Reporting to the Chair of the Council of Governors, Scotch College Adelaide’s Principal & CEO will be responsible for the educational leadership, overall management, and strategic direction of the College. Working collaboratively with a highly talented, professional and experienced senior leadership team, the Principal & CEO will continue to deliver and evolve the Strategic Plan, whilst acknowledging and safeguarding the College’s history and culture. As the leader of this sizeable enterprise, the Principal & CEO will ensure the long-term commercial resilience of the school through prudent financial stewardship, continued philanthropy and the implementation of active growth strategies.
The successful appointee will be a contemporary educational leader who will shape the future of education delivery, embrace a diverse range of learning environments and have a clear understanding of the role of technology to support outcomes. Characterised by a dynamic and engaging leadership style that nurtures, challenges and inspires students and staff, the incoming Principal & CEO will demonstrate a distinguished record of leadership within the education sector, including an understanding of and support for domestic and international boarding. A passion for excellence in all aspects of College operations will support a strategic and forward thinking mindset. Drawing on the rich legacy of leadership, innovation and community values that have helped Scotch flourish the incoming Principal & CEO will display a genuine desire to collaborate with and actively contribute to this thriving community. This position will be based in Adelaide, South Australia.

Scotch College Adelaide is an independent, coeducational day and boarding school for students in ELC – Year 12, located on two adjacent campuses in Torrens Park and Mitcham in the inner-southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1919, today Scotch has an enrolment greater than 1150 and more than 250 staff.
