The School of Psychology at the University of Waikato in New Zealand is seeking to appoint a continuing full-time Professor or Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology. On appointment, the successful candidate will also be the Director of the professional training programme for clinical psychologists for an initial period of three years.
The School of Psychology is currently in a growth phase, offering a broad undergraduate education in Psychology, with a range of specialised programmes at graduate level, including Masters and PhD degrees and several programmes that lead to registration as a professional psychologist. The School has developed an effective, empirically oriented professional programme for training clinical psychologists, which has a generally cognitive behavioural orientation and a commitment to bicultural development and meeting diverse community needs.
Based in Hamilton and reporting to a newly appointed Head of School, the appointee will lead the clinical programme on a day-to-day basis and oversee future developments. Other responsibilities will include teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, thesis supervision, research and academic oversight of the clinical training.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate academic leadership in abnormal and clinical psychology and a sustained record of scholarly achievement, showing evidence of an active research agenda, award of competitive research funding and publication in leading refereed journals. Requirements include a research-based PhD in Psychology, NZ registration or eligibility for NZ registration as a clinical psychologist and experience in under/postgraduate teaching and graduate supervision.
This role will suit an academic with strong professional and personal credibility, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with a willingness to engage in the bicultural aspects of the University.
