The Position

Working with a purpose driven Board, the Ombudsman leads the organisation to deliver contemporary alternative dispute resolution and advocates for passenger improvements across the transport network in Victoria. The role builds collaborative relationships with member organisations, and community and government stakeholders and ensures the PTO Scheme is administered in accordance with its Constitution and Charter.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the PTO, the role is responsible for the development of the annual business plan, setting of the annual budget, and providing strategic and policy leadership This includes oversight of a small dedicated and professional team covering governance, risk, dispute resolution, communications, outreach and engagement and business service functions. Your approach will be one of continuous improvement and instilling high performance and a willingness to be both strategic and ‘hands on’ operationally when required.

The successful candidate will have track record of positive and inclusive people leadership gained in a dispute resolution or complaints handling environment. Along with superior judgment, decision making and analytical skills, you will have exceptional stakeholder engagement and influence and negotiation capability. Tertiary or post-graduate qualifications in a related field such as law, dispute resolution or public administration are desirable.

The PTO Limited is an unlisted company limited by guarantee. It formally operates the PTO scheme, with its Constitution establishing the office of Public Transport Ombudsman (PTO), who is vested with authority under the PTO Charter.
