The QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute seeks an experienced and collaborative Chief Operating Officer (COO) to drive strategy and innovation to build organisational capability and growth, fostering a supportive and positive corporate culture. Leading key departments in the provision of professional support to world-class research programs, the COO will ensure that corporate strategies, systems and processes are sound, transparent and well-managed, meeting relevant regulation and compliance.
Reporting to the Director and Chief Executive Officer, the COO will be responsible for the departments of finance and administration; information technology; corporate affairs and fundraising; scientific services; legal; and governance and risk. Providing inspiring leadership to these teams, the COO will promote the attainment of the Institute’s vision, mission, goals and objectives, while maximising the Institute’s financial position and enabling open and accountable corporate governance of the organisation.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a significant track record in operational leadership across multiple functions in a large and complex organisation. With strong leadership skills you will be able to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of high performance and taking teams on a journey of change in a dynamic environment. Experienced in building productive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will be consultative and comfortable in participating on relevant boards and committees and liaising with government, the community and other stakeholders. A strong sense of fiscal and financial management will be required, with skills in planning, budgeting, financial control, resource allocation and reporting. Experience in philanthropic endeavours will be highly regarded in advancing the mission of the Institute.
