Trade & Investment Queensland (TIQ) seeks to appoint a strategic and commercially astute individual to become the Queensland Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner – ASEAN. As a region, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is among Queensland’s largest trading partners and is Australia’s 6th largest source of foreign investment. With greater trade and investment opportunities emerging and with increasing frequency of bi-lateral visits at senior government level, this will be an important and highly visible Commissioner appointment.
The Commissioner reports to TIQ’s General Manager – International Operations (who is based in Brisbane) and will oversee a network of 5 offices: Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. The Commissioner will lead this team to enhance engagement and drive greater economic opportunities between the region and Queensland. Guiding and supporting stakeholders to pursue trade and investment outcomes by providing market intelligence, business leads, advice and introductions is central to this role.
The successful candidate for this locally engaged position will be a senior level, commercially astute leader who has a good understanding of government and deep familiarity with Australia and one or more countries in the ASEAN region. Recognised as inspiring and known for being an outstanding communicator who has exceptional people skills, the appointee will be a strategic thinker who has a record of applying sound corporate governance. Evidencing a commitment to championing innovative ideas, the incumbent will demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the Queensland Government’s key industry sectors (food and agriculture, high end consumer goods resources and education and training).
Please refer to the position description for full requirements.
The Commissioner will be required to travel across the five markets on a fairly regular basis.
