The Position

Trade & Investment Queensland (TIQ), seeks to appoint a strategic and commercially astute individual to become its Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner – China. Recognising that China is Queensland’s largest two-way trade partner and export market, and a major investor in the state, this is a key appointment for TIQ.

The Commissioner reports to TIQ’s General Manager – International (who is based in Brisbane) and will oversee a network of 5 offices: Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong SAR. The Commissioner will lead this team to enhance engagement and unlock greater economic opportunities between China and Queensland. Guiding and supporting stakeholders by providing market intelligence, business leads and advice is central to this role.

The successful candidate for this locally engaged position will be a senior level, commercially astute leader who has an understanding of government and deep familiarity with China, Hong Kong and Australia. Recognised as inspiring and known for being an outstanding communicator who has exceptional people skills, the appointee will be a strategic thinker who has a record of applying sound corporate governance. Evidencing a commitment to championing innovative ideas, the incumbent will demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the Queensland Government’s key industry sectors (resources, agriculture, tourism, education, urban infrastructure and knowledge-based industries).
