The Organisation
Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd (AVS) is a private company wholly-owned by the State of Victoria that has delivered over 35 years of service excellence in supporting and streamlining the commercial interfaces between private sector collaborators and the Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR) branch of the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR).   AVS’ primary role is to maximise the commercialisation value and impact of Agriculture Victoria’s research & innovation, so that Victorian agriculture and related industries are strong, innovative and sustainable, in order to contribute to better economic and societal outcomes.
The Position
To support future IP management needs of AVS the organisation has an opportunity for a Senior IP Manager to join this dynamic and fast paced environment.
Reporting to the COO, the Senior IP Manager will play a pivotal role in the protection, management and strategic direction of intellectual property, within the AVS IP portfolio, including compliance, opposition and litigation matters.  The Senior IP Manager will support the AVS team, including the AVS CEO and COO to maximise the adoption, value and impact of Agriculture Victoria Research innovations.  In addition, the Senior IP Manager will support key AVS stakeholders in strategic IP decision-making and play a key role in developing and managing the interface between AVS’ internal and external IP ecosystems.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in intellectual property strategy, management and prosecution, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyright and plant breeder rights. The development and application of intellectual property strategies to achieve commercial outcomes and the ability to develop collaborative and trusted relationships with a range of senior stakeholders will be key to the success of this role.
As an inclusive team player, the successful candidate will demonstrate highly developed communication skills and the ability to work well with others; be adaptive and responsive to change and have a genuine passion and interest in making a difference within the science and technology sector.
A degree in an IP/legal-related discipline will be essential. A degree in Science and post graduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
