The Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, People and Culture, the Director Occupational Health, Safety & Injury Management will lead the department and function across The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH). This is a senior leadership position, strategically leading and implementing a contemporary health and safety function while working collaboratively with the Director People and Culture and the Director of Security & Safety.
Located in Jane Bell House on the City Campus of the Hospital, the Director will lead a team of eleven staff and be responsible for the Injury Management Team (workers compensation and return to work), and the Safety Partners who provide advice on auditing, risk, incident management and manual handling. The incumbent will have to engage with the executive team and other stakeholders in driving the strategic direction for OH&S and on related education, training, and communication matters.
The Director will be an experienced and adaptable H&S leader capable of moving between strategy development and hands-on implementation.  With solid career experience in Safety, the Director will be a seasoned professional capable of educating and promoting safety leadership across the organisation.
Nuanced influencing, interpersonal and communication skills to deal with executive management and staff at all levels will be essential. The ideal candidate will be dynamic and proactive with a flexible and responsive approach and highly developed relationship management skills evidenced in working with internal stakeholders.  Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources or a related field will be highly desirable. Although a background in health is not essential, this position will suit someone with a genuine interest in contributing to a hospital environment.
