  • Lead a policy and research team that influences organisational policies and programs to promote workplace equality and prevent harm
  • Provide high quality advice on matters relating to equality and human rights in the workplace
  • Lead high quality research to ensure work undertaken at AV to promote workplace equality is informed by evidence and best practice

The Position

Ambulance Victoria (AV) seeks to appoint a self-motivated and intellectually curious Senior Policy and Research Manager to join its newly established Equality & Workplace Reform Division. The successful applicant will draw on equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion and human rights knowledge, as well as policy, research and analysis skills to influence and advise on strategic directions for AV. This work is critical to enabling the organisation to embed a safe, fair and inclusive environment and culture, as part of AV’s response to the independent review into workplace equality by the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC). This organisational response is a key priority for AV, and is supported by senior leaders, executives, and the Board.

Reporting to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion, the Senior Policy and Research Manager will focus on formulating and supporting critical, strategic policy initiatives relating to workplace equality and human rights by completing complex research and analytical work to support fit-for-purpose, contemporary policy advice. This includes developing, evaluating and managing key parts of the organisation’s reform program and ensuring the organisation is responsive to emerging best practice and legislative and regulatory changes relating to workplace equality. The Senior Policy and Research Manager also leads a small, high functioning team responsible for policy, research, and equality programs at AV.

The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of Victoria’s equal opportunity and human rights laws and frameworks as well as leading practice approaches to creating safe, fair and inclusive workplaces.  A track record in progressing key workplace equality reforms at scale, skills and experience in public policy, and confidence with public sector governance requirements and processes are essential.

As a strong conceptual and analytical thinker with well-developed problem solving skills, the successful applicant will have exceptional communication skills including stakeholder engagement skills. They will be an excellent people manager, and lead their team effectively by supporting, coaching, and mentoring in a kind and people-first manner. They will be known as a leader who can work with diverse teams while ensuring psychological safety, including in high pressure situations. A tertiary qualification in law, public policy or business management, or a related discipline, is preferred.
