The Position

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) seeks to appoint a Strategic Senior HR Business Partner on a 12-month fixed term contract. This pivotal role will be instrumental in leading the HR strategy and initiatives across the Medical Services Division, directly reporting to the Chief People Officer.

Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, the successful candidate will partner with the Chief Medical Officer and other senior leaders to deliver on HR strategic plans, enhance organisational capabilities, and foster a culture of safety, well-being, and respect. The successful candidate will lead initiatives across various HR disciplines, including industrial relations, talent, learning & development, and workforce planning, with a significant focus on culture and industrial relations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Medical Services leadership to embed strategic HR plans.
  • Innovate and implement HR frameworks, programs, and projects to enhance organisational capability.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
  • Develop robust relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders including unions and government agencies.


About You:

  • An experienced senior HR leader, Senior HR BP with a background preferably in a healthcare, clinical, corporate or industrialised environment.
  • Strong background in industrial relations and strategic HR management.
  • Proven ability to influence at all levels and lead strategic HR initiatives.
  • Proven ability to drive change and cultural transformation.
  • Positive, confident and collaborative with an ability to handle yourself in an operational environment across various EBA’s.
  • An individual who is able to coach, lead and influence stakeholders and support the development of a true business partnering model.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or related field.

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is a statutory agency within the Justice and Community Safety portfolio of the Victorian Government and is governed by the VIFM Council on behalf of the Attorney-General. For over 30 years, the VIFM has provided independent, high-quality forensic medical and scientific services to support the health of the community and the justice system in Victoria and beyond. The VIFM is a trusted global leader in forensic medicine.

The Institute’s work can be described as a virtuous circle of teaching, training and research, underpinned with its formal links to Monash University’s Department of Forensic Medicine. Academic activities including research and teaching are core features of the Institute’s medical and scientific work and contribute significantly to high-quality service delivery. The coronial and justice systems depend upon the robustness and reliability of the Institute’s forensic evidence and service provision.

The VIFM’s contributions to public health and justice include our work in coronial jurisdictions and our input into policy development for areas of public health, such as policing priorities including drug and alcohol campaigns, cold case breakthroughs, among many more.
