The Te Pātaka Kōrero—University Library’s mission is to advance the University’s strategic priorities by enriching its teaching, learning and research endeavours. It achieves this by delivering flexible access to extensive quality information, electronic and physical resources and services, and by providing excellent learning spaces that engage students in study, learning, collaboration and group discussions. It also houses Tapuaka – Heritage and Archive collections. The University seeks a new University Librarian to lead the provision of high-quality library resources, excellence in client-centred services and a supportive learning environment.
Reporting to the Provost, the University Librarian will provide strategic direction, leadership and overall management of the University Library to support the University’s strategic priorities. This includes the effective management of library resources and providing outstanding service delivery that supports teaching, research, the student experience, and engagement with the community. In addition to overseeing the University’s Information and Records Management Function, the appointee will also play a critical role in proactively building strategic collaborations at a local, national and international level, promoting the University and ensuring that the Library remains at the forefront of best practice and next generation technology.
With internationally recognised postgraduate library qualifications and a track record in library leadership, the ideal candidate will have significant experience in strategic leadership, with the vision, drive and commitment to providing outstanding client-centred service delivery. The University Librarian will be future focused and able to demonstrate a contemporary understanding of current issues, trends and technologies, bringing a deep understanding of library services, learning and research support in an academic environment. With strong personal and professional credibility, the successful candidate will have well-developed relationship management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners within and beyond the University.
An understanding of equity principles and a commitment to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi Statute is essential.
