The Manatū Wāhine | Ministry for Women, is the government’s principal advisor on improving the lives of New Zealand’s women and girls. Our vision is that Aotearoa New Zealand is a great place to be a woman or girl, wāhine Māori succeed as Māori, and gender is not a barrier to wellbeing. To achieve these aspirations, the Ministry works with organisations across all sectors and with Māori and other community stakeholders to understand issues and influence change.
The Secretary for Women and Chief Executive, Ministry for Women (Secretary for Women) is responsible for leading the Ministry to provide expert strategic policy development and implementation advice to achieving better outcomes for women and girls. They provide purposeful leadership to a maturing organisation that delivers results across its priority areas, while embracing innovation and change.
We are looking for an experienced policy leader who can influence and shape cross-cutting initiatives and achieve results as the next Secretary for Women. The appointee will have a record of delivering system-wide outcomes throughout their career, enabled by their deft influencing and relationship-management skills including at the ministerial interface. A strong understanding of the levers that will increase the strategic impact of the Ministry’s work is essential. The appointee will work with Te Puni Kōkiri, as well as iwi and other Māori groups to improve outcomes for wāhine Māori and ensure the strengths of wāhine Māori are recognised.
Excellent leadership by public service chief executives is essential to high performing departments and a high performing public service. Chief executives are required to work collaboratively in a spirit of service and strive towards the overall goal of a system of world class, professional public services, serving the government of the day and meeting the needs of all New Zealanders.
