The Position

As Queensland enters the golden decade leading up to the 2032 Olympics, Trade & Investment Queensland (TIQ) has an exciting and ambitious agenda to leverage global trade and investment opportunities. The Government has committed an extra $150m to deliver on a new 10-year trade and investment strategy, a key initiative of which is to embrace and augment opportunities for Queensland. To drive this exciting initiative, TIQ has established a new Trade Commissioner position focused on strengthening our engagement in the Pacific region.

Reporting to the General Manager, International Operations, the inaugural Trade Commissioner for the Pacific will be responsible for managing the development of market strategies that drive trade and investment growth for Queensland and resilience across the Pacific region. Elevating Queensland’s profile in the region, developing market intelligence and fostering enduring relationships with a variety of stakeholders within the business and government community, are key elements of the role.

The successful candidate will be a commercially astute leader who has senior level experience across the Public and Private sectors and deep connections within the Pacific Region. Recognised as inspiring and known for being an outstanding communicator who has exceptional people skills, the appointee will be a strategic thinker who possesses a global mindset and a track record of commercial outcomes in Australia and overseas. Evidencing a commitment to championing innovative ideas, the incumbent will demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the Queensland Government’s key industry sectors (resources, agriculture, tourism, education, urban infrastructure and knowledge-based industries).

This is an Australian based role. Frequent international travel within the Pacific region will be required.
