Professor Brendon Murphy is Professor of Law at Southern Cross University

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Business, Law and Arts has been building a law discipline that is unique in Australia in its proximity to and engagement with the legal profession.  Fisher Leadership partnered with the University in recent recruitment within the discipline, resulting in the appointment of passionate and engaged academics, who are creating opportunities and impact.  Once again assisting the Faculty to continue to build on this growth trajectory, our team sought outstanding individuals whose connections to practice run deep, and whose authority in their chosen area of expertise is unquestionable.  Appointed as Professor of Criminal Law, Professor Brendon Murphy will translate insights from practice into dynamic legal education and thought leadership, preparing the next generation of practice leaders.

Professor Brendon Murphy brings over 15 years’ academic experience, most recently at the Australian Catholic University, where he was the national coordinator for criminal law, public law and evidence, with a track record in teaching across a range of Priestly 11 courses.  With expertise in the area of doctrinal criminal law, criminology, and criminal justice, Brendon also has a strong interest in theoretical and socio-legal perspectives.

In addition to his academic career, Brendon has also worked as a social worker and a lawyer.  He was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and was admitted to practice as a Solicitor and Barrister of the High Court of Australia, both in 2005.
