Professor Christopher Lawrence is Associate Dean (Indigenous), Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University
A proud Wadjak/Ballardong man from the Noongar Nation of the South West of Western Australia, Professor Christopher Lawrence has recently been appointed as Associate Dean (Indigenous) in the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. He joins Monash from Curtin University, where he was Dean and Professor of Indigenous Engagement, Faculty of Science and Engineering, where he created greater opportunities to support Aboriginal students, staff, partners and community members.
Previously at UTS, Chris was Head of the Centre for Indigenous Technology Research and Development, appointed to establish and lead an interdisciplinary research centre for Indigenous Technology and Innovation Research for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and global Indigenous populations, with a focus on STEM/FEIT curriculum, teaching and research.
Chris looks forward to collaborating with Aboriginal communities in Victoria – using technology and innovation to improve their health, wellbeing and education while fostering more ‘tech-smart’ communities through co-design. Working with researchers across the faculty, he will also engage Indigenous and non-Indigenous students in schools to nurture the next digital and space explorer workforce of the future.
