Professor Michelle Gee is Chief Technology Officer, Innovation and Strategic Research at Defence Science and Technology Group

The Chief Technology Officer, Innovation and Strategic Research is responsible for leading DSTG’s contribution to the Defence Capability Innovation programs, including governance of the Next Generation Technologies program.  Providing a critical contribution to the development of government programs and policy through the provision of expert scientific advice, the role is also responsible for the leadership of an integrated strategic research program which encompasses the identification and development of research programs for strategic research disciplines and the development of strategic research challenges.

With 25 years’ experience in translational research and development management, development and innovation, including managing portfolios across higher education, industry, government and manufacturing, Professor Michelle Gee was selected as the successful candidate.  Most recently the Founding Director of the Sir Lawrence Wackett Defence and Aerospace Research Centre and as Professor of Aerospace Engineering at RMIT University, Michelle has led the formation of trans-disciplinary research consortia supporting defence and aerospace capability development.  With a passion for supporting the growth of the technology sector and its talent pipeline, Michelle was previously liaison and strategist for external research partnerships at Boeing.
