Professor Tony Dreise is Pro Vice-Chancellor (First Nations and Research) at the University of Southern Queensland

Fisher Leadership was delighted to partner with the University of Southern Queensland in the identification of an outstanding individual to strengthen the voice of First Nations people in the University’s teaching, research and enterprise.  The Pro Vice-Chancellor (First Nations and Research) plays an influential role in the development and delivery of mutually beneficial Indigenous engagement initiatives, quality Indigenous education programs and innovative Indigenous research.

A descendent of the Guumilaroi and Euahlayi First Nations of north-west New South Wales and south-west Queensland, Professor Tony Dreise brings nearly 30 years’ experience in education, public administration and community development across a number of settings and locations.  Internationally recognised as a First Nations leader in policy, evaluation and research in the field of education, Tony has a long policy and research career in Queensland and New South Wales.  He most recently led one of the Australian National University’s highest impact research centres, the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research, where his successes included securing significant external funding and leading the formation of partnerships and research alliances.  He has also overseen teaching programs, the supervision of postgraduate students and engagement with public, private and philanthropic partners.

Tony’s earlier roles include Executive Director, Indigenous Policy and Partnerships for the Queensland Government and he has also worked with the Australian Council for Educational Research, and the NSW Department of Education and Training.
