Dr Angela Bone (Angie) is the new Deputy Chief Health Officer at the Department of Health and Human Services (VIC)

Dr Angela Bone (Angie) is the new Deputy Chief Health Officer at the Department of Health and Human Services (VIC). Angie is a senior health professional with a specialist registration in public health. A medical doctor by background, she has a broad range of experience at local, national and international level. This includes UK public health training, European Programme in Interventional Epidemiology training (EPIET), and appointments with the Health Protection Agency, Merlin and the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the World Health Organisation. Angie previously headed up the Extreme Events and Health Protection team at Public Health England where she applied her background to a range of public health problems, with the overarching aim of protecting and improving health and reducing health inequalities. Prior to this appointment Angie spent a number of years with the Health Protection Agency, where she managed a national health screening programme with the aim of control through early detection, treatment, education and gathering of research data. Before this Angie undertook specialist epidemiology training with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Angie’s interests include environmental public health and infectious disease epidemiology. Her main area of interest is on reducing vulnerability to extreme events and climate change, through sustainable development, and appropriate preparedness, response and recovery.
