Justin Mohamed is the new Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People at the Department of Health & Human Services

Justin Mohamed is the new Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People at the Department of Health & Human Services. Justin was previously based in Canberra and provided leadership of Equity Health Solutions Pty Ltd as the Chief Executive Officer, serving since September 2017. He is a Gooreng Gooreng man from Bundaberg in Queensland but has spent more than 20 years in Victoria. Prior to this, he was the Chief Executive Officer at Reconciliation Australia for over three years, an independent not for profit organisation which promotes and facilitates reconciliation by building relationships, respect and trust between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In addition to his health equity and health promotion knowledge, Justin started out in the health sector as a Health Services Manager and CEO of Rumbalara, and Chaired VACCHO for 6 years before being elected Deputy Chair and Chair of NACCHO in 2007. He is a strong advocate of self-determination, he has sat on numerous committees, and has been a strong contributor to the National Aboriginal Health Plan.
