Mary Harney is the new Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

Mary Harney is the new Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. In the last 15 years Mary has held executive positions in the commercial, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, public health and agricultural sectors. The majority of these roles were newly created positions and Mary was the inaugural appointment in highly regulated environments. This required her to create the operational framework, procure infrastructure, develop risk management frameworks, recruit teams, and lead change programs to enable implementation. In her previous position with the Gardiner Dairy Foundation, Mary as Chief Executive was required to lead a change agenda to develop a strategy to reposition the Foundation for future growth and industry engagement. Mary engaged with a large range of stakeholders including primary producers, manufacturers, R&D groups and government. Previously, Mary spent five years as Chief Operating Officer of Research and Director of the Office for Cancer Research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. As the COO Mary established systems and corporate services for the research community. Earlier in her career, Mary held senior roles in ASX listed biotechnology companies and headed the Cytopathology Department at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
