Mr Cameron Paterson has been appointed as Director of Learning with Wesley College
Cameron is an educational leader who demonstrates a mindset of continuous learning, from which he is focussed on impacting the future of education. For the past 12 years Cameron has held the position of Director of Learning and Teaching at Shore School. In this position Cameron holds responsibility for the strategic leadership of learning and teaching, innovation, and the promotion of excellence in teaching practice at Shore. During his appointment Cameron has worked to shift the pedagogy to focus on thinking, understanding and creativity with projects aimed at supporting and growing staff in order to develop positive outcomes for students. Cameron developed a professional learning program based on coaching and mentoring, collaborative inquiry and shadowing students. To facilitate the provision of student-based feedback on teaching and learning Cameron initiated a Student Think Tank. Other notable projects developed and implemented by Cameron include an indigenous exchange programme, a student film festival and establishing an immersive group design project at the Commbank Innovation Lab to address domestic violence.
Cameron has been engaged with the Harvard Graduate School of Education, working as an online course instructor at the annual Project Zero Classroom and as a facilitator at The Principals’ Center. He also initiated and co-lead the Project Zero Sydney Network, providing free professional development for thousands of educators. Cameron has recently received a Churchill Fellowship to explore Harvard’s Creating Cultures of Thinking framework.
Earlier at Shore Cameron was House master for seven years, with responsibility for the pastor care of 80 students across Years 7-12 in a vertical House system. Previously as Head of Year 7 Cameron was engaged in the pastoral care of 200 students including their transition to high school.
