Professor Letitia Fickel is Pro Vice-Chancellor of Education, Health and Human Development at the University of Canterbury

Professor Letitia Fickel is the new Pro Vice-Chancellor of Education, Health and Human Development, Te Amorangi Ako me te Hauora, providing strategic and academic leadership for the College and contributing to the strategic direction of the University as part of the senior leadership team. Key priorities include developing a compelling, shared vision for the College, enabling and leading innovation and change aligned to UC’s Academic Strategy, and championing staff in their commitment to student-centred education and leading-edge research that makes a difference locally and globally.

An experienced academic, researcher and program evaluator, Professor Fickel specialises in the area of teacher professional development and learning, with a focus on the development of culturally responsive practice, pedagogical innovation, and enhanced student learning.  A former Head of School, she brings experience as a lead researcher on a range of collaborative projects, most recently a Teaching and Learning Research Initiative project on socio-emotional wellbeing in education.  Prior to joining the University of Canterbury, Letitia was at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, where she led four large scale, US government funded projects on innovative educational programs.
