Rudi Marquez is the new Head of School, Physical and Chemical Sciences at the University of Canterbury. Rudi is an experienced higher education leader where in his previous role he was employed at the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) as the Head of the Department of Chemistry and the Chair of the Faculty of Science leading three departments including chemistry, environmental sciences and biological sciences. Reporting to Vice-President of XJTLU, Rudi managed 30 academic plus 10 technical and administration staff along with overseeing the studies of 560 students.  Rudi is also one of the co-founders and acting directors of his own organisation, Tissue Repair Technologies (TRT).  Rudi’s research interests are at the interface between synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and molecular and cell biology with a particular emphasis on diabetes, parasitology and water quality. Rudi has held a number of fellowships, including an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Leadership Fellowship and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship.  Rudi is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
