The Brief

Fisher Leadership was engaged by a City Council in June 2020 to assist in the appointment of the General Manager Governance and Engagement & Manager City Development.. Focus on timely project delivery was critical and the search required candidates particularly from CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse)/Indigenous backgrounds.​

Solution Building​

Following a detailed briefing, we understood the GM position comprised the standard corporate services portfolio including finance, project management, IT, P&C, communications, customer service, asset management, governance, and council business.​

The key focus for the Manager position was planning and building and a contemporary, service driven, and collaborative leader was sought. ​

The consultant team at Fisher Leadership leveraged their extensive contacts across Local Government (including interstate); public and private sectors to identify and approach diverse GMs/Directors and high potential Managers. ​

The searches were supported by an online and print advertising campaign in the Saturday Age; LG Job Directory; LG Pro online, Seek, LinkedIn and Fisher Leadership’s website. ​

The Outcome​

The successful candidate was a high potential Manager with a track record in developing high performance teams with a positive culture. They recently led the Corporate Services function at a City Council and had UK experience, ​

Another short-listed candidate was appointed Manager City Development, a highly experienced planner with significant experience having worked in LG across town planning and corporate services roles. They formerly worked on several projects for another Council and has added value to community infrastructure and services.​
