Ms. Andrea Fischer has been appointed to the position of Director Community Based Drug and Alcohol Response with cohealth and commenced on 25 March 2024. In this newly created senior leadership role, Andrea will lead multidisciplinary drug and alcohol responses through a time of immense transformation. She will oversee strategy, planning and implementation across the portfolio, supporting harm minimisation, treatment and addiction medicine services and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client centred, value-based care that is impactful for the community.
Andrea is a committed public health advocate and professional with over 20 years of experience in the leadership and management of health and research activities both internationally and domestically. Her strengths enable her to consistently design and deliver highly successful evidence-based programs across a range of areas, including community-based drug and alcohol programs. Andrea has expertise in public health and exceptional community engagement skills which enable her to develop meaningful solutions to complex problems, resulting in lasting change.
Prior to joining cohealth, Andrea held the position of Chief Operating Officer and before that as Executive Officer at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. She was earlier employed by Alfred Health in the position of Executive Officer, Melbourne Planning Group AIDS 2014 and earlier, Papua New Guinea Program Director, with the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical and Public Health Research.
