Ms Katherine McKernan has been appointed to the position of Executive Director with National Legal Aid

Fisher Leadership alongside National Legal Aid (NLA) are pleased to confirm the appointment of Katherine McKernan as the Executive Director.

A newly created role, Katherine will report to the Board Chair and Executive of the organisation and act as a critical conduit in enabling NLA to achieve its goals in leading a national system of legal aid that allows disadvantaged individuals to access justice.

Katherine possesses over 15 years’ experience in senior management within the government and not-for-profit sectors. The breadth of her career has focused on social policy and social justice issues, including housing and homelessness, health (including mental health) and the prevention of violence against women. She was most recently leading Redfern Legal Centre and prior to this spent 7 years as CEO of Homelessness NSW where she initiated several important projects in accordance with the strategic plan, built the sustainability of the homelessness sector and her organisation and engaged strongly with the staff, Board and organisation networks.
