The Position
The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (the College) is seeking an outstanding individual for the newly created position of Academic Manager responsible for providing academic leadership across the College’s education function.
This critical role will be fundamental in realising the long-term vision for the College’s education, training and continuing professional development programmes. It offers an opportunity to lead cutting-edge medical education initiatives through a more entrepreneurial and innovative approach to programme structure, delivery modes and means of engagement, whilst ensuring that the highest standards of academic rigour and excellence are maintained. The role will be pivotal in raising theCollege’s global visibility by positioning the medical education provision as a global benchmark.
Reporting to the General Manager Learning and leading a team of six subject matter experts, the Academic Manager will maintain and implement the College’s education strategy, ensuring for attainment of the highest educational standards, and fulfilment of Fellowship Regulations, accreditation obligations and curricula requirements. Academic leadership will be key in researching and applying appropriate international best practice in the development and delivery of the education provision.
You will hold a post-graduate level qualification in Medical Education and ideally a higher degree, combined with at least five years’ experience in a tertiary education managerial or leadership position. That should include responsibility for people and budgets, and/or responsibility for taught provision at an enterprise or divisional level. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing training programme rules, regulations, policies and procedures will be essential, as will experience in programme evaluation and accreditation activities.
To be effective in this pioneering position, you will have strong credibility and be a team player with a passion for medical education and current learning trends who is able to demonstrate a highly innovative and flexible approach and strong relational skills.

It is a charitable organisation whose purpose is to encourage, foster and maintain the highest possible standards for medical care within the scope of general practice. This vision is realised by setting quality standards for general practice, providing research, assessment, ongoing education, advocacy and support for general practitioners and general practice. The College delivers the General Practice Education Programme (GPEP) and Rural Hospital Medicine education programme on behalf of the Medical Council of New Zealand.
