The position
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) provides independent, national leadership for the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, that supports and promotes excellence in the profession of teaching and school leadership. AITSL is seeking to appoint an experienced, proactive, and engaging leader to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Reporting to the Board Chair, the CEO is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of AITSL as a high profile national institute. The CEO will work to foster and promote the reputation of AITSL and lead a committed and engaged team, while maintaining a broad network across the most senior levels of education and government and overseeing the development of new opportunities.
The successful candidate will be a high profile leader with extensive knowledge of the Australian education sector and its structures, systems and processes at Commonwealth and/or State and Territory levels. Commercially astute, the appointee will be outcomes focused and will have the ability to demonstrate impact and a track record of delivering results. The appointee will present as a credible leader with senior-level gravitas and an entrepreneurial style and will have highly developed negotiation, stakeholder management, communication and engagement skills.

AITSL works collaboratively with all stakeholders to produce high quality, evidence-based tools and resources, and help drive the educational reform agenda for the benefit of student outcomes. AITSL is part of, and operates within, the national education architecture and works with the education Communities in all States and Territories, systems and sectors.
