The Department of Education and Training is seeking a highly credible leader, to provide executive leadership and direction of the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), its people and resources.  With dual reporting responsibilities, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible to the Board for policy and operations, and to the Secretary for budgetary, personnel and other administrative matters.  The CEO leads the regulation of education and training in Victoria by ensuring providers, including schools, registered training organisations and employers meet the required standards for participation in Victoria’s education and training system.
The ideal candidate will bring an outstanding track record in the development, implementation and evaluation of contemporary regulatory frameworks.  With the ability to drive strategic decision making and the capability to build and foster networks and provide authoritative advice to the Board and Ministers, the CEO will have highly developed communication, stakeholder management and engagement skills, with the capability to set and communicate the future vision for the organisation.  With a commitment to the Victorian Public Sector values, experience across both government and education sectors will also be key to success.  A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is mandatory.
The Organisation
The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority is an independent statutory authority, working to assure the quality of education and training in Victoria.  It regulates all Victorian schools and accredits courses and qualifications.  The VRQA registers apprentices and trainees, approving their employers and ensuring that all parties meet their contractual obligations.
As Victoria’s education and training regulator, VRQA supports the education and training goals of the Victorian government.  It contributes to the portfolio-wide efforts of the Department of Education and Training to help Victorians gain the skills and knowledge they need to thrive and participate in a complex and challenging economy and society.
