The Heart Foundation is seeking to appoint an outstanding leader as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is an exciting leadership opportunity to steer a trusted national organisation committed to improving heart disease prevention, detection, and support through research and application.
Reporting to the Board of the Heart Foundation, the CEO is accountable to the Board for leadership, strategy, and operational execution of the strategy to progress its vision, mission, and values. The CEO will play an important role in positioning the Heart Foundation as the trusted voice on national heart health.
The successful candidate is likely to be a clinician, public health professional, researcher or scientist with senior executive experience. With relevant tertiary qualifications, you will have demonstrated experience in responding to community‑wide public health or related equity challenges through your work in fields such as research, prevention, treatment, policy and program development and support. The CEO represents the Heart Foundation in the public sphere to extend its respected profile and supports diverse community needs.
As a confident and influential communicator, you will engage with political, donor, medical, media and research communities, representing values consistent with those of the Heart Foundation. You will understand the machinations of advocacy and how to achieve national impact. Presenting with executive gravitas, the appointee will balance commerciality with integrity and stakeholder sensitivity and will offer a track-record in leading an organisation’s strategic agenda, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring financial sustainability.

The Organisation
For over 60 years, the Heart Foundation has been the trusted peak body working to improve heart disease prevention, detection, and support for all Australians. Since 1959 the Heart Foundation has funded research projects worth over $670 million, including $17.2 million in 2020.
Every day, the Heart Foundation supports Australians when they need it most, speaks out on behalf of the community on heart heath issues, empowers people to reduce their disease risk, and works with health professionals and researchers to find new ways to better manage and treat heart health. The work has had a major impact on the survival rates of those suffering a heart attack and those living with heart disease, however coronary heart disease is still Australia’s number one killer, taking 50 lives every day.
