The position
Darebin City Council is proudly home to one of Victoria’s largest and most diverse communities. At the centre of Council’s vision is an ambitious plan to be an equitable, vibrant and connected multicultural community, which respects and supports First Nations People and is committed to mitigating the climate emergency. Council also recognises the need for the ongoing commitment to and monitoring of reforms implemented to ensure a high level of good governance is consistently maintained throughout the coming years.
Darebin has a far-reaching agenda to ensure quality of life for current and future generations. We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who is passionate about this vibrant City’s social and economic agenda and is committed to deliver on the objectives of the Council’s Plan through continued community engagement and development of a talented and engaged workforce. Success in the position requires an accomplished contemporary leader with a track record of achievement in a large complex organisation, who understands effective integration of strategy, planning and operations in a community services setting.
Supporting progressive elected Councillors, the CEO will deliver on objectives covering:

  • Strategic delivery of the Council Plan and capital works
  • Responsible financial management and risk management
  • High quality engagement with diverse communities
  • Effective advocacy and stakeholder relations
  • Continuous service improvement
  • Strategic and effective people leadership.

 
The successful appointee will demonstrate a track record of leading complex service delivery in the public, not-for-profit and/or private sectors and have the capability to communicate Council’s Vision, Values, Mission and Key Directions impactfully to a diverse range of audiences.

The organisation:
The City of Darebin is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas, located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, and covering area of around 53 square kilometres of land and encompassing the areas of Bundoora, Kingsbury and Macleod, Fairfield and Alphington, Northcote, Preston, Reservoir, Coburg and Thornbury.
We provide over 100 services to residents, businesses and community groups, from the early years – maternal and child health and family services – through to retirement and seniors activities. Services are also available to support new businesses, maintenance of roads, footpaths and drains, waste collection, youth services, libraries, sports grounds, arts programs, festivals and more.
