The Position

Ambulance Victoria (AV) is proud to deliver vital, life-saving emergency medical and transport services to the Victorian community.

As a world-leading service committed to providing high-quality pre-hospital care to every patient, every time, the services of AV are evolving to meet the growing and increasingly complex needs of Victorians. It is AV’s promise to every patient which sits at the heart of everything they do. Every AV employee plays a vital role in delivering critical services to the Victorian public as they are a part of a workforce dedicated to bringing to life the vision of ‘Outstanding emergency health care every time’.

Reporting to the Chair and working closely with the Board of Ambulance Victoria, the Chief Executive Officer will lead the new exciting stage of Ambulance Victoria’s evolution.  Harnessing one of the largest budgets in the health system and delivering a critical program of workplace reform, this is a pivotal moment in time and a significant opportunity for a new CEO to lead the transformation to a safe, fair and inclusive Ambulance Victoria for all.

The successful incumbent will be an inspirational and inclusive CEO who builds trust to lead the performance and health of AV’s people and organisation. A CEO who is highly strategic, with the ability to lead in a highly dynamic, politicised, complex and challenging environment, driving leading-edge clinical operations and clinical practice will be critical. The successful candidate will have exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, building internal confidence whilst reinforcing AV’s position in the external environment with partners across health, government and the emergency services landscape. Key attributes contributing to the success of this role will include exceptional communication and influencing skills, innovation, integrity, compassion and commitment to the delivery of world class outcomes for the health of our community.

The Organisation

AV’s workforce of more than 6,000 highly trained paramedics and intensive care paramedics, some 1,500 community first responders and over 500 corporate and specialist support staff are dedicated to providing best care every single day.

With a 138-year history of leveraging leading edge research and innovative, and evidence-based clinical practices, Ambulance Victoria responds to close to a million Triple Zero (000) calls for emergency medical response annually.

Ambulance Victoria is a unique working environment, where the actions of each employee and volunteer contribute to the aim of caring for our patients. With the lifesaving work of AV paramedics at the cornerstone of our work, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important to helping us help the community.
