The Position

Billanook College is seeking an experienced and inspiring Deputy Principal to oversee the daily operations of the College and contribute to the strategic direction of its dynamic learning community. As a pivotal member of the College Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal will ensure the seamless operation of all areas of the school while fostering the wellbeing of staff and students. This role includes leading the College’s Teaching Staff Professional Growth Model, overseeing pastoral programs, and supporting a diverse range of academic and co-curricular initiatives.

Reporting to the Principal, the Deputy Principal will manage key functions of the College, including pastoral care, professional learning, and the coordination of events and programs such as Outdoor Education, Student Services, and the Round Square Program. This role is integral to upholding the College’s mission to develop students’ whole being—body, mind, and spirit—and fostering lifelong learning beyond academic excellence. The Deputy Principal will work collaboratively with Heads of School and other leaders to ensure consistency in routines, policies, and student leadership models. As a trusted advisor to the Principal, the Deputy Principal will deputise in their absence, embodying the College’s commitment to excellence and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will be a registered teacher with a deep understanding of current educational theory and practice. They will have demonstrated expertise in pastoral and curriculum leadership, excellent management and communication skills, and a passion for fostering a child-safe and inclusive environment. Postgraduate qualifications and experience in student welfare or wellbeing will be highly regarded, along with a strong alignment to the values of the Uniting Church and independent education.

Billanook College is an independent co-educational school with an early learning program through to Year 12, located in Mooroolbark, Melbourne, Victoria, with approximately 910 students. It operates in association with the Uniting Church in Australia and is a member of Round Square.
