The Position
Victoria Legal Aid is seeking to appoint an Executive Director to its Criminal Law program. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Executive Director, Criminal Law Services provides leadership and oversight to criminal matters of major legal importance and complexity through the management of criminal law services and staff across Victoria. This role is also responsible for the Goulburn office.
As a key member of the senior executive team, the position will participate in formulating strategic plans, priorities and provide advice on the allocation of VLA resources. The Executive Director, Criminal Law Services will also play an active role in policy and law reform advocacy to enhance equity of access to justice.
To be successful in the role you will be a highly experienced leader and lawyer, ideally with knowledge and experience of government processes. With knowledge of current issues and challenges facing the criminal justice system and an appreciation of the needs of legally aided clients, you will offer strong leadership and strategic insight. As a skilled decision maker, you will be effective in relationship building, government engagement and stakeholder management, and possess superior communication and negotiation skills.

VLA provides services in the areas of criminal law, family law and some civil law matters, via staff and private practitioners.
