The Position
Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) seeks to appoint an Executive Director Mental Health (EDMH) to provide leadership and direction for the delivery of the organisation’s core clinical mental health services in addition to supporting LRH’s role as the Area Mental Health Service for Gippsland.  With a remit to drive significant culture and practice change across the workforce, the EDMH will play a critical role in transforming LRH’s mental health service to meet the recommendations arising from the Royal Commission into Mental Health Services.
Reporting to the CEO, and working collaboratively with the executive team, the EDMH will lead the delivery of high-quality and safe person-centred care to the Gippsland community.  With responsibility for operational management of all acute bed based and community mental health programs, public sector residential aged care facility and the mental health workforce, the EDMH will liaise with a broad group of external stakeholders including consumers, carers, government and other health services.  A key outcome sought from this appointment will be the development of new models of care, especially those that are community based.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a collaborative style, with the drive and energy to lead the workforce to deliver outstanding service and care within mental health.  Described as an outstanding communicator, the appointee will have a natural propensity towards mentoring and developing people.  While the appointee is not required to be a practitioner, they will need a strong understanding of the current mental health landscape and associated reforms and will demonstrate the necessary skills to manage complex organisational and cultural change.  It is essential that the appointee demonstrate a commitment to the principles of recovery and the involvement of lived experience experts at all levels of governance.
