  • Join a unique and ambitious university in the Tropics
  • Strategic HR leadership opportunity to shape future direction
  • Collaborate and partner with organisational units to drive growth and outcomes

At a time of change and opportunity James Cook University (JCU) seeks an outstanding individual to take University-wide leadership in human resources and provide high level strategic advice to the University governance and executive, developing, implementing and maintaining an effective HR support network to promote all aspects of human resource management.
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Division of Services and Resources and with six direct reports, the Director is accountable for the strategic leadership, vision, management and operational performance of the Human Resources Directorate.  The Director will make sure that objectives and activities are integrated and aligned with the strategic priorities of the Division and the broader University, ensuring the use of best practice HR systems, polices, processes and practices.
An HR generalist, the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record in the delivery of innovative people strategies that support the development of a high performing culture, with the ability to ensure accurate and efficient operations across the function.  With a strategic mindset, the Director will be experienced in HR business partnering, bringing strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to gain the confidence of key stakeholders across the University as a whole.  An understanding and knowledge of industrial legislation and enterprise bargaining is essential and operational leadership skills, including the ability to oversee the management of a substantial budget will be important.
A personal alignment with the University’s core values of excellence; authenticity; integrity; sustainability; mutual respect; discovery; and creativity and innovation will be key.  Experience in university leadership is not a prerequisite, however a background in a complex service delivery environment will be required.
