  • Significant appointment in a highly reputable Catholic school
  • Enrich educational and pastoral outcomes
  • Perth based position

The Position

John XXIII College, Perth, is an independent co-educational Catholic College in the Loreto and Ignatian Tradition, renowned for its academic achievement, inclusivity and co-curricular program.  The College now seeks to appoint an inspirational and innovative educator to the position of Principal, commencing in January 2023, following the completion of Mr Robert Henderson’s term as Principal.  Mr Henderson has led John XXIII with distinction for the past seven years and has made a significant contribution to School during this time.

Reporting to the College Council, the Principal will build on the current strengths of the school, taking it to greater heights via a focus on community engagement and the ongoing development of teaching and learning approaches.  Leading a high performing leadership team, the Principal will inspire confidence in the School, not only driving excellence in educational and pastoral outcomes but also continuing to develop and maintain a safe, caring and vibrant community. Promoting strong enrolment levels, financial stability, effective operational management and a strong philanthropic alignment will also be key aspects of this position.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the ethos of Catholicism in a progressive Ignatius tradition together with a genuine desire to be part of a thriving community. With a comprehensive knowledge and experience in education and the business acumen required to successfully run a multifaceted organisation, the ideal candidate will possess exceptional stakeholder management experience and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build sustained relationships across a broad community.  The ability to foster a positive culture along with an open and collaborative leadership style will be essential to ensuring the ongoing professional development of staff.

With demonstrable experience in leading and executing a vision and strategy in a complex educational environment, the appointee will present as forward thinking and innovative and deliver a strong focus on wellbeing.  A contemporary and creative outlook combined with high emotional intelligence and a calm and pragmatic demeanour will ensure success in this leadership position.

The Organisation

Since 1977 John XXIII College has offered a co-educational Catholic learning environment where all students (Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12) are supported, on an individual basis, to reach their goals – both academically and in their personal and spiritual development. John XXIII College is home to over 1,550 students and over 240 staff.

The College community is one that strives to live the values of the Catholic Church in an authentic and contemporary way. The traditional Catholic values of love and service for others, care, and respect of the individual and justice guide not only the management of the College on a day-to-day basis, but also provide a foundation for the care and development of each individual student.
